Our Notes
A savoury showstopper of a wine made from a grape more associated with Uruguay and the production of Armagnac, this monster red from the scenic Shoalhaven Coast is highly structured and full of characterful umami goodness - I detect notes of shiitake and maybe even Vegemite.
Bottle Club members might even want to keep this around for a bit, if they can manage.
Winemakers Comments
Deep and dark in colour with blackberry flavours on the nose, this brooding brambly wine has a firm tannic structural background with savoury characteristics and a long persistent finish. An ideal food wine that will reward well into the future with careful cellaring.
About the Winery
Based out of a property built by convicts in the early 19th century, Coolangatta’s wines, among the most respected in the Shoalhaven Heads region, are just as impressive as the estate’s scenery and architecture.
Their various aged semillons are especially well-regarded, but a wide range of varietals and approaches are available and rewarding.
